Seek Comfort From The Lyrics

365 Ways To Wellbeing – 268th Way

It’s been long known that identifying with sad songs and their stories help you out when you’re feeling blue. Somehow identifying with the feeling of sadness helps us to overcome it. Maybe  it’s about compassion. By identifying with the feeling of sadness we’re able to be a bit more compassionate towards ourselves. We start to feel sympathy for ourselves and see us a little bit more human, more fragile and more accepting way.

This day I listened Johnny Cash`s version of Nine Inch Nails song “Hurt”. The lyrics, the atmosphere and the video of the song are very melancholic. However the song made me feel compassionate towards myself.

In front of different kind of life decisions I´ve started to imagine me as an old woman. I´ve asked myself;

“What kind of decisions have I made during my life?” or

“Have I lived so that I can leave this life and my loved ones in peace when the time comes?”.

They are difficult questions but they have helped me a lot. They have helped me to make the right decisions.

I will try my best and I will find a way. This day the lyrics of “Hurt” made me realize that. It felt good. It gave me comfort.

“Hurt” – Johnny Cash

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that’s real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar’s chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
